Ushnota Abhijan 2025 — Immediate Humanitarian Response to the Karail Slum Fire

The Ushnota Abhijan 2025 (Warmth Campaign) began with school-based activism, public awareness activities, and active volunteer participation. Students and teachers from different institutions came forward with heartfelt contributions, donating warm clothing to support underprivileged communities in Dhaka.

As part of the campaign protocol, all collected winter clothes were to be sorted, cleaned, and packaged before distribution to the city’s needy population. However, an unexpected tragedy reshaped the campaign’s immediate priorities.

On the afternoon of November 25, a devastating fire swept through Dhaka’s Karail slum, leaving nearly 1,500 families homeless within minutes. Many lost their food, clothing, and shelter, pushing them into an urgent humanitarian crisis.

In response to this emergency, Cedar Initiative held an emergency board meeting and made a swift and compassionate decision. According to this decision, all winter clothes collected during the campaign until November 27 were immediately allocated and delivered to the families affected by the Karail fire.

Through this prompt action, we were able to stand beside the affected families, offering essential support and a message of solidarity in their moment of need. The Cedar Initiative remains committed to serving vulnerable communities with empathy, responsibility, and humanity.
